| Using Preview mode Best practice |
|
In R16 Oracle have released the preview mode that allows a hover or click on a record link to show some basic info. This is not a description how to turn that feature on the help system will guide you on that but here is a best practice tip, that will help you get the most from this function, it's simple and may even be obvious to many, but I'm sure many people haven't done it. Align Search and list layouts. The preview mode shows basic info for the record, and it is very likely to be used extensively in the list management feature, but it's useless if it largely duplicates information in the columns (9 of) in the list. See this screenshot
You can see the preview, pretty much duplicates what is shown in the list. Of course there maybe good reason for some duplication (eg you will use preview elsewhere so will need key info to remain), but take the time to consider how the users use the system, what they absolutely need to see first in the list, and then add to that with the preview mode. As your environment may have many layouts and lists to review for this, take the time to understand exactly how the users interact, what information is best placed on the list vs the preview vs the full layout. In a call centre/custom service environment this approach can be very effective in quickly identifying the customer, confirming key information and saving time. *Tip: Changing Preview mode Did you know that you can change what is shown in the preview pop-up window, by altering the top two sections (left and right) of the page layout, just add or remove the fields you want to see in the preview pop-up into those sections.
